Biological target:
Moroxydine hydrochloride (ABOB hydrochloride) is a synthetic antiviral compound chemically belonging to the series of the heterocyclic biguanidines.
In vitro activity:
The paper was undertaken to explore the antiviral response and antiapoptotic mechanism of Mor against grass carp reovirus (GCRV) in Ctenopharyngodon idella kidney (CIK) cells. Moroxydine blocked the GCRV-induced cytopathic effects and eliminated nucleocapsids in CIK cells to keep the normal morphological structure. The downstream effector, caspase activity was also significantly inhibited in Mor treated cells Reference: Antiviral Res. 2016 Jul;131:156-65. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27188236/
