Carfenazine, also known as WY-2445, or carphenazine (BAN), also known as carphenazine maleate (USAN) (brand name Proketazine; former developmental code name NSC-71755), is an antipsychotic and tranquilizer of the phenothiazine group that was withdrawn from the market. Carphenazine blocks postsynaptic mesolimbic dopaminergic D1 and D2 receptors in the brain; depresses the release of hypothalamic and hypophyseal hormones and is believed to depress the reticular activating system thus affecting basal metabolism, body temperature, wakefulness, vasomotor tone, and emesis.
