Description:

WARNING: This product is for research use only, not for human or veterinary use.

Ro 7-0213 is a novel benzodiazepine (Ro7-0213) that contains a quaternary ammonium moiety bearing a full positive charge. RO7-0213 exhibited high affinity for benzodiazepine receptors but acted as an inverse agonist, reducing GABAergic neurotransmission, which contrasts with typical anxiolytic benzodiazepines. In vivo experiments in cats revealed pro-convulsant properties: RO7-0213 induced seizures and produced abnormal EEG patterns characterized by spike-wave discharges, confirming its convulsant activity. These findings highlighted its unique role in studying seizure mechanisms and the functional duality of benzodiazepine receptor ligands, showing receptor binding without anticonvulsant efficacy. RO7-0213 served as a tool to explore the relationship between receptor interaction and neurological outcomes.
