sBADA is a FDAA probe (green fluorescent D-amino acid probe) that is used for labeling peptidoglycans in the cell wall of bacteria. sBADA demonstrated its utility for visualizing peptidoglycan synthesis in Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacterial species. The permeability of FDAAs toward the outer-membrane of Gram-negative organisms, pinpointing the probes available for effective labeling in these species. The fluorescent d-amino acids can serve as ideal PG probes to elucidate bacterial cell growth and division in high spatiotemporal resolution, or to simply label bacterial cell surfaces for a variety of other applications in diverse bacteria
