Melicopine is an acridone alkaloid that has been found in Z. simulans and has antimalarial and anticancer activities. It is active against the chloroquine-sensitive 3D7 and chloroquine-resistant Dd2 strains of P. falciparum with IC50 values of 29.7 and 33.7 µg/ml, respectively. Melicopine is cytotoxic to PC-3M and LNCaP prostate cancer, but not non-cancerous HEK293, cells.
