Biological target:
Decamethoxine (Septefril) is a cationic gemini surfactant that exhibits strong bactericidal and fungicidal effects. Decamethoxine modifies the permeability of the microbial cell membrane, resulting in the destruction and death of diverse microorganisms.
In vitro activity:
The development of resistance of collection and freshly isolated S. aureus and C. albicans strains to the antiseptic decamethoxim was studied comparatively in vitro. It was shown that the rate of the resistance development was low. After 20 subcultures in the presence of increasing concentrations of decamethoxin, its sensitivity of S. aureus and C. albicans decreased 16-32 and 16-fold respectively. Reference: Antibiot Khimioter. 1992 Dec. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1304128/
In vivo activity:
Intramuscular injection of decamethoxin into the animals in a dose of 0.5 and 1 mg/kg, specifically in a dose of 1 mg/kg, reduced the level of glucose as well as that of total and free glycogen in the liver. The drug lowered also the activity of phosphorylase and glocoso-6-phosphatase. he animals given decamethoxin showed the aforesaid parameters returning to normal 20 days after the drug was discontinued.
