Description:

WARNING: This product is for research use only, not for human or veterinary use.

(-)-Sparteine is a quinolizidine alkaloid with antiarrhythmic (Class 1a), uterotonic, and neuromuscular effects. It blocks voltage-gated Na⁺ channels, reducing cardiac excitability, and enhances calcium mobilization to stimulate uterine contractions. Additionally, it inhibits CYP2D6, affecting drug metabolism, and acts as a nicotinic receptor antagonist. While it has some cytotoxic and antimicrobial potential, its toxicity—causing arrhythmias, hypotension, and neuromuscular blockade—has limited its clinical use.
