Chromonar is a vasodilatory compound that exhibits calcium channel blocking activity. It has been shown to inhibit calcium influx in smooth muscle and cardiac tissue, contributing to its antihypertensive and antianginal effects. Chromonar has also been reported to block ATP-sensitive potassium (K_ATP) channels in cardiac cells, potentially altering cardiac electrophysiology. In preclinical studies, it demonstrated dose-dependent negative inotropic and chronotropic effects. For instance, in isolated rat hearts, Chromonar at 10–100 μM significantly reduced left ventricular pressure and heart rate.
