SR-16584 is an antagonist of the α3β4 nAChR subtype (IC50 = 10.2 μM).The compound exhibits high affinity for α3β4 nAChRs (Ki = 32 nM) and effectively inhibits nicotine-induced currents in electrophysiological assays. Functionally, SR 16584 reduces nicotine-induced dopamine release in the nucleus accumbens and demonstrates efficacy in preclinical models of nicotine dependence by reducing self-administration and withdrawal symptoms. These findings suggest its potential as a therapeutic agent for nicotine addiction and other disorders involving α3β4 nAChRs.
