Description:

WARNING: This product is for research use only, not for human or veterinary use.

Ergonovine maleate is an ergot alkaloid derivative used primarily as a uterotonic agent to induce contraction of the uterus, especially postpartum, to control bleeding. It exerts its effect by stimulating alpha-adrenergic and serotonergic receptors, leading to increased smooth muscle contraction through the activation of phosphatidylinositol turnover and calcium mobilization. Due to its potent vasoconstrictive properties, ergonovine maleate can also be employed in diagnostic tests for coronary artery spasm.
