BAI1 is an allosteric inhibitor of Bax channel activation. It binds inactive Bax at allosteric site and inhibits tBID-mediated Bax activation. It also selectively inhibits Bax-dependent apoptosis and is a potent inhibitor of Bax-mediated mitochondrial cytochrome c release.
