UCN-02 is a protein kinase inhibitor that primarily targets protein kinase C (PKC) and cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs), particularly CDK2. It inhibits these kinases by competing with ATP at the catalytic binding site, leading to disruption of cell cycle progression and induction of apoptosis in cancer cells. UCN-02 has also been shown to modulate checkpoint kinase 1 (Chk1), impairing DNA damage response and enhancing cytotoxic effects of DNA-damaging agents.
