Methyl dihydrolysergate is an ergot alkaloid derivative with reported activity primarily as a dopamine receptor agonist and partial agonist at serotonin (5-HT) receptors. It exhibits high affinity for D2-like dopamine receptors (Ki values in the nanomolar range), and moderate affinity for 5-HT1A and 5-HT2A receptors. In vitro studies have shown that methyl dihydrolysergate can inhibit prolactin secretion by stimulating D2 receptors in pituitary lactotroph cells. In animal models, it has demonstrated central dopaminergic activity, leading to behavioral effects such as increased locomotion and reduced depressive-like behavior.
