Biological target:
Scutellarein inhibits sucrose hydrolysis by rat intestinal α-glucosidase and ATPase activity of the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) coronavirus helicase nsP13 (IC50s = 12 and 0.86 μM, respectively). It decreases NO release and mRNA expression of iNOS and TNF-α induced by LPS in RAW 264.7 macrophages. Scutellarein decreases tumor weight and volume in an HT-1080 human fibrosarcoma mouse xenograft model.
In vitro activity:
Scutellarein can be used to treat inflammation. In lipopolysaccharide stimulated RAW264.7 cells, scutellarein treatment reduced p-JNK, p-ERK, and iNOS, but there was no change in expression of COX-2. Reference: Molecules. 2022 Jun 12;27(12):3782. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35744907/
In vivo activity:
Scutellarein is a potential for atopic dermatitis by inhibiting TRPV3, and TRPV3, which ameliorates carvacrol-induced skin inflammation. In 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB) and carvacrol-induced dermatitis mouse models, subcutaneous administration of Scutellarein suppressed DNFB and carvacrol-induced pruritus, epidermal hyperplasia, and skin inflammation in wild type mice but had no additional benefit in Trpv3 knockout mice in the carvacrol model.
