Biological target:
Laminaran is an β-1-3-glucan and a typical ligand for Dectin-1 from Eisenia Bicyclis, has potent immunomodulating, radioprotective, and anticancer activities.
In vitro activity:
The aim of the present study was to investigate in vitro anticancer, radioprotective, and radiosensitizing activities of laminaran from brown alga Dictyota dichotoma and its sulfated derivative. The native and sulfated laminarans by themselves at non-toxic doses possessed significant anticancer activity against melanoma cells. Reference: Carbohydr Polym. 2019 Feb 15;206:539-547. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30553355/
In vivo activity:
This study verified the positive effect on alcoholic liver disease (ALD) of laminarin, a water-soluble brown algae-derived β-glucan, linked by β-(1,3) glycosidic bonds with β-(1,6) branches. Laminarin significantly alleviated liver injury and improved liver function of ALD mice. Reference: J Food Biochem. 2022 Dec;46(12):e14500. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36515171/
