CI-936 is a purine receptor agonist that has been evaluated for its potential as an antipsychotic agent. In preclinical studies, CI-936 demonstrated antipsychotic-like activity in mice by inhibiting motor activity without producing significant ataxia. It also selectively blocked responses in the Sidman avoidance paradigm, a test predictive of antipsychotic activity. However, the lack of selectivity of CI-936 for its central nervous system versus cardiovascular actions and other side effects precluded further development.
