NDPIH is a compound derived from Hericium erinaceus and it demonstrates potent neurotrophic activity by promoting extensive axon outgrowth and neurite branching in cultured hippocampal neurons, independent of serum. While pharmacological inhibition of tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB) only partially prevented NDPIH-induced activity, NDPIH activated ERK1/2 signaling independently of TrkB.
