S1-Puro is the prodrug of puromycin, activated by selenoprotein thioredoxin reductase (TrxR), reducing off-site cytotoxicity. Puromycin inhibits protein synthesis by prematurely causing termination of chain elongation during translation, to be used for treatment of cancers where TrxR is overexpressed.
