LJ-2698 is an adenosine A3 receptor antagonist and is being explored as a treatment for Emphysema and DKD. In the murine lung model, LJ-2698 was found to minimize the negative effects of elastase-induced changes, furthermore inhibiting matrix metalloproteinase activity and cell apoptosis. Applications of LJ-2698 for the treatment of diabetic kidney disease have also been explored, with several different types of kidney injuries being successfully prevented in mice.
