Avibactam tomilopil is an oral beta-lactamase inhibitor with antibacterial properties. It is a prodrug of Avibactam, which is the first beta-lactamase inhibitor of the diazabicyclooctanes class. Avibactam prevents beta-lactamase enzymes that are produced by microorganisms from destroying beta-lactam antibiotics. Avibactam tomilopil has potential to address the growing crisis of antibiotic resistance and has already been shown to be effective against M. abscessus pulmonary disease in mouse models.
