5SGlcNHex is a potent inhibitor of heparanase, an endo-β-glucuronidase implicated in cancer metastasis, angiogenesis, and inflammation. In the referenced study, 5SGlcNHex demonstrated nanomolar-level inhibition of human heparanase, with an IC₅₀ value of approximately 43 nM. The compound mimics key structural features of heparan sulfate yet resists enzymatic cleavage, allowing it to competitively bind to the enzyme’s active site. In cellular assays, it effectively inhibited heparanase-mediated cell invasion and matrix degradation.
