RO0504985 is an inhibitor of several CMGC-group kinase proteins, inhibits the replication of different HCMV strains, viz., AD169 and Merlin (RCMV1111) with EC50 values of 0.01 and 1.3 μM, respectively. A mode-of-action study has shown that RO0504985 inhibits the production of immediate early viral IE2 proteins and the late viral protein pp28.
