Product Data
Biological target:
Semax is a synthetic peptide analog of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) that has neuroprotective, analgesic, and anxiolytic properties.
In vitro activity:
This study determined that the neuroprotective effect of Semax in ischemic stroke can be due to its capacity to protect neurons from damage caused by oxidative stress. In cultured rat pheochromocytoma cell after oxidative stress induced by short-term incubation with hydrogen peroxide, Semax dose-dependently reduced the number of cells damaged by oxidative stress. Reference: Bull Exp Biol Med. 2003 Mar;135(3):268-71. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12802399/
In vivo activity:
This study investigated the molecular mechanisms of Semax in the treatment of impairment of cerebral blood circulation. The neuroprotective action of Semax may be associated with a compensation of mRNA expression patterns that are disrupted during ischaemia-reperfusion conditions. Following transient middle cerebral artery occlusion in rats, Semax suppressed the expression of genes related to inflammatory processes and activated the expression of genes related to neurotransmission.
