Product Data
Biological target:
SP-420 is a desferrithiocin analogue with iron-clearing efficiency with ICE value of 26.
In vitro activity:
To be determined
In vivo activity:
This phase I study assessed SP-420 in β-thalassemia patients. Plasma concentrations increased with dose. Renal adverse events, including proteinuria and increased serum creatinine, led to premature study termination. Lower doses or less frequent dosing of SP-420 may warrant further investigation for safety and efficacy in chelation therapy.
