Desfluoroatorvastatin is an impurity created during the synthesis of Atorvastatin. Atorvastatin is a competitive HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor and is the only drug in its class specfically indicated for lowering both elevated LDL-cholesterol and triglycerides in patients with hypercholesterolemia.
