Biological target:
Schizandrin C is a molecular glue. Schizandrin C is used for cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and liver diseases research. Schizandrin C induces cell apoptosis.
In vitro activity:
Schizandrin C may be useful in preventing obesity and metabolic diseases; Schizandrin C-containing foods may be a dietary strategy. In this study, Schizandrin C significantly reduces adipocyte differentiation in 3T3-L1 cells without affecting cell proliferation. SC lowers total lipid and triglyceride contents, down-regulates adipogenic gene expressions, increases p-AMPK, regulates adipogenic transcription factors, and inhibits lipolysis-related genes and pancreatic lipase levels. In vivo activity:
Schizandrin C has potential as a drug for liver fibrosis. In a murine model of liver fibrosis, Schizandrin C exerted an anti-hepatic fibrosis effect and reduced the expressions of alpha-smooth muscle actin and type Ι collagen in the liver. Schizandrin C can regulate lipid metabolism and inflammation to ameliorate liver fibrosis by nuclear factor kappa-B and p38/ERK MAPK signaling pathways.
