Description:

WARNING: This product is for research use only, not for human or veterinary use.

Cyanocobalamin is a cobalt-containing coordination compound produced by intestinal micro-organisms and found also in soil and water. Higher plants do not concentrate vitamin B 12 from the soil and so are a poor source of the substance as compared with animal tissues. INTRINSIC FACTOR is important for the assimilation of vitamin B 12.

Biological target:
Vitamin B12 plays a key role in the normal functioning of the brain and nervous system, and for the formation of blood.
In vitro activity:
The results indicated that vitamin B12 interacts with tau protein and prevents fibrillization of tau protein. Blocking the cysteine residues of tau confirmed the cysteine-mediated binding of vitamin B12 to tau and showed that binding to cysteine is essential for inhibitory effect of vitamin B12 on tau aggregation. Reference: ACS Chem Neurosci. 2017 Dec 20;8(12):2676-2682. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28841372/
In vivo activity:
The parameters indicating diastolic function including E-wave deceleration rate (EWDR), isovolumic relaxation time (IVRT), and E’ were also normalized by B12 (Fig. 1f–h). Taken together, these data demonstrate that high-dose oral supplements of B12 prevent development of diabetic cardiomyopathy in the Elmo1H/H Ins2Akita/+ mice.
