Gadodiamide is a non-ionic, linear gadolinium-based contrast agent (GBCA) used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to enhance tissue contrast by shortening T1 relaxation times. It consists of a gadolinium ion complexed with the chelating ligand DTPA-BMA (diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid–bis(methylamide)), which stabilizes the toxic free Gd³⁺ ion. Due to its linear structure and relatively low thermodynamic stability, gadodiamide has been associated with an increased risk of nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF) in patients with renal impairment.
