Biological target:
SD-169 is an inhibitor of p38α MAPK with an IC50 of 3.2 nM. SD-169 less potently inhibits p38β MAPK with an IC50 of 122 nM.

In vivo activity:
This study demonstrated that SD-169 prevented and alleviated type 1 diabetes in nonobese diabetic (NOD) mice by inhibiting T cell infiltration and activation, preserving beta cell mass through the inhibition of the p38 MAPK signaling pathway. In mildly and moderately hyperglycemic NOD mice, SD-169 treatment lowered blood glucose and improved glucose homeostasis.
