XCT790 is a selective inverse agonist of estrogen-related receptor alpha (ERRα), disrupting its transcriptional activity and downregulating genes involved in oxidative metabolism. It inhibits tumor growth in ERRα-overexpressing cancers and impairs mitochondrial function, making it a valuable tool in metabolic and cancer research. XCT790 also disrupts ERRα–PGC-1α interactions, leading to mitochondrial dysfunction and apoptosis in cancer cells.
