Lapisteride, also known as CS-891; CS-891B, is a steroid 5α-reductase inhibitor potentially for the treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy. Lapisteride is effective in the prevention or treatment of AGA. CS-891 inhibit 5aR activity in dermal papillae (DP) of human HF. The local conversion of testosterone (T) to the more potent androgen dihydrotestosterone (DHT) by 5alpha-reductase (5aR) is implicated in the pathogenesis of androgenetic alopecia (AGA).
