Description:

WARNING: This product is for research use only, not for human or veterinary use.

Pyrogallol is an organic compound that can be used in hair dying, dying of suturing materials, and for oxygen absorption in gas analysis. It also has antiseptic properties. Pyrogallol was also used as a developing agent in black-and-white developers, but its use is largely historical except for special purpose applications.

Product Data
Biological target:
Pyrogallol is a superoxide anion generator and ROS inducer.
In vitro activity:
Pyrogallol inhibited human pulmonary A549 cell growth by inducing cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Pyrogallol significantly inhibited A549 cell growth for 72 h, inducing G1 phase arrest at 24 or 48 h and apoptosis characterized by sub-G1 cells, annexin V staining, and mitochondrial membrane potential loss. It also depleted intracellular GSH and increased ROS levels, impacting cell viability. Reference: J Biochem Mol Toxicol. 2009 Jan-Feb;23(1):36-42. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19202562/
In vivo activity:
In this study, pyrogallol demonstrated promising anti-colon cancer properties, leading to a significant reduction in tumor size comparable to the conventional drug doxorubicin. However, there were mild declines in body weight in mice treated with pyrogallol and the acetone extract of A. nilotica.
